New Delhi: The Indian ministry of defence may have agreed to release 45 MHz of wireless radio spectrum, according to reports appearing in various sections of the media. The booming telecom sector in the country has been hamstrung by a lack of spectrum and has been pressurising the armed forces to vacate some of the bandwidth allotted to them.
According to reports, the armed forces may have agreed to release 10 MHz spectrum for third-generation (3G) mobile services and 5 MHz for 2G services on an immediate basis. In an understanding arrived at with the telecom ministry they will release the rest of the spectrum in phased manner in a period extending up to three years, reports said.
