Indian companies prominent in Platts Top 250 global energy rankings

India with six companies in the list of top 50 fastest growing global energy companies has taken pride of place in the 2012 Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings. India also had 12 companies in the list of top 250.
China and India and the wider Asia-Pacific region secured top billing in rapid financial growth and fast rising energy companies. According to a statement, 70 companies from the region were in the spotlight when the 2012 Platts 250 Global Energy Companies Rankings were released in Singapore on Tuesday.
Platt said, Cairn India was the front runner as the fastest-growing company not just in Asia but the world with a 119.8 per cent three-year compounded growth rate (CGR) outpacing the rest of the field by a wide margin.
The 2012 rankings reflect fiscal 2011 financial performance across for key parameters asset worth, revenues, profits and return on invested capital.
Platt ranking showed that Indian companies took a significant lead in both the independent power producers and gas utility categories, with NTPC Ltd and GAIL (India) coming top of their respective regional segments.
Coal India took the number two spot in the return on invested capital rankings with an ROIC of 35.3 per cent. After listing in the rankings for the first time in 2010 rankings, Coal India has posted strong returns on invested capital in both years, a remarkable achievement given the challenges it faces.
