Indian mobile operators add 7.79 million users in October

Indian telecom service providers added 7.79 million wireless users in October, almost similar to those added a month ago, taking its total subscriber base to 881.40 million.

This is a 0.89 per cent growth in subscriber numbers compared with that in September, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

The country's mobile operators added 7.9 million new users in September, taking the total number of wireless users in the country to 873.61 million.

Private operators hold 87.81 per cent of the wireless market share, while state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telepone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) hold only 12.19 per cent market share.

Out of the total 881.40 million subscribers, 626.18 million were active on the date of peak visitor location register (VLR) for  October.

The proportion of VLR subscribers is about 71.04 per cent of the total wireless subscriber base reported by the service providers.
