Bajaj Auto on Friday announced the launch of ‘Bajaj Freedom 125’, the world's first CNG-powered motorcycle, introducing a new technology that would both save on fuel cost and reduce emissions.
With a price tag of Rs95,000 for the base model. the bike runs on both petrol and CNG, ensuring higher mileage and lower running cost.
Freedom 125 can switch between petrol and CNG, with the press of a button. It is also the first motorcycle to use this technology globally.
Bajaj Auto has opened booking for the new bike, which can be done via the company's official website and at authorised showrooms.
The bike is available in three variants - NG04 Disc LED, NG04 Drum LED and NG04 Drum – with different colour options.
The NG04 Drum version is priced at Rs95,000 (ex-showroom) and the NG04 Disc LED version at Rs1,05,000 while the NG04 Disc LED costs Rs1,10,000.
The introduction of the Bajaj Freedom 125 could significantly influence the two-wheeler market. CNG technology offers the potential to reduce fuel costs and lower emissions, both critical factors for Indian two-wheeler owners.
Freedom 125 is fitted with two tanks – a two-litre petrol and and a 2 kg CNG tank, The CNG tank is housed below the seat while the petrol tank is fitted just ahead of the seat.
With petrol as the main fuel and CNG acting as standby option, the bike offers a mileage of 213 kilometres per kg of CNG, making it a highly efficient option for commuters.
Bajaj Auto claims to have subjected Freedom 125 to 11 safety tests, including a 'truck rollover test' which demonstrated that the CNG tank remained intact after the test.
