State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Friday announced a Rs39.50 reduction in the price of commercial cooking gas (LPG) that is sold in 19-kg cylinders, reflecting a fall in international prices.

A 19-kg cylinder of LPG, which is sold mostly to commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurants, will now cost Rs1,757 in the national capital against Rs1,796.50, oil firms said in a price notification.

Commercial LPG will now cost Rs1,710 per cylinder in Mumbai, Rs1,868.50 in Kolkata, and Rs1,929 in Chennai. LPG prices differ from state to state based on local taxes.

The price of domestic LPG (cooking gas sold to households), however, remained unchanged at Rs903 per 14.2-kg cylinder.

The three state-run OMCs - Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) - had, on 1 December, raised the price of commercial LPG by Rs21  per cylinder.

OMCs revise oil and gas prices usually at the beginning of each month on the basis of the average international price in the previous month.

OMCs have nor revised the prices of petrol and diesel for the past 20 months. Petrol costs Rs96.72 a litre in the national capital, while diesel is priced at Rs89.62 per litre.
