Inpex calls tenders for mammoth offshore gas platform

Taking another significant step in its $20 billion Icthys project off the Kimberley Coast in Western Australia, Japanese oil and gas company Inpex has called for tenders for a mammoth offshore gas platform.
The tenders are for building of a semi-submersible gas platform, one of the biggest in the world. The platform will be located 200 kilometres offshore.
The company is planning to produce 8.4 MT of LNG a year. This will involve piping gas from the Browse Basin, over 800 kilometres to an onshore plant in Darwin.
According to the company, it expects to call for tenders for construction of the pipeline by the end of the year. The company says a final investment decision is due by the end of 2011.
Inpex Corporation, an international oil and gas exploration and production company is ranked among the top 50 global petroleum companies and is today involved in more than 70 projects across 26 countries.
The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Inpex has had a presence in Australia since 1986. The company's projects in Australia and the Timor Sea include Ichthys Project,
Van Gogh, Ravensworth, Bayu-Undan and Darwin LNG.
