The seat of Indian democracy can now claim to have become eco-friendly, at least in part, with power starting to flow from Lanco Solar's solar power plant to Parliament House from Tuesday. Lanco Solar, a fully owned subsidiary of Lanco Infratech Ltd, on Tuesday announced the commissioning of its 80 kWp grid-connected solar power plant at the Parliament House complex.
Lanco's rooftop photovoltaic energy solution at the Parliament House complex has been running successfully for over four months now, generating up to 400 units of electricity on a daily basis.
"We are very excited at the successful commissioning of the project by Lanco Solar. Lots of efforts have been made to complete this project as this was the most prestigious project of Lanco Solar," said V Saibaba, chief executive officer of Lanco Solar Energy Pvt Ltd.
Lanco Solar was awarded the contract to build, operate and maintain an 80-kWp solar photovoltaic rooftop power plant at Parliament House Annexe by the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), which was the nodal agency under the guidance of the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE).
"This is one project where I have practically seen that clear timelines were set by the ministry for the project. I would like to take this opportunity to thank PEDA and MNRE for selecting Lanco for this prestigious project for our country", Saibaba added.
The project serves as a showcase of how green energy can be used in various projects - both government and private - as a viable option while constructing residential and commercial spaces, Lanco Soal said in a release.
Lanco has already signed a power purchase agreement for 35 MW solar PV project in Gujarat under the state power policy.
It is currently building a 75 MW crystalline-based solar PV power project in Dhule district of Maharashtra. Lanco Solar is also developing a 100 MW solar thermal project in Rajasthan.
