Metro Cash & Carry opens its second wholesale distribution centre in Mumbai, at Borivali

German self-service business-to-business wholesaler Metro Cash & Carry India yesterday opened its second wholesale distribution centre in Maharashtra after distribution centre in Bhandup, Mumbai.
The German firm said it would open 8-10 stores every year in India for the next four years, at a cost of approximately Rs60-70 crore per store.
With an investment of approximately Rs120 crore, the Borivali wholesale centre, the eighth in the country, will take METRO's total investment in the state to Rs240-crore.
Rajeev Bakshi, managing director, Metro Cash and Carry India, said, the Borivali centre would offer customers a wide assortment of over 10,000 articles at low wholesale prices.
Bakshi said, ''We will further expand our network of local suppliers and drive benefits to the overall economy including employment generation, local procurement and training of customers and suppliers on aspects impacting their business.''
The Borivali wholesale centre, located on the Western Express Highway, will have selling space of over 50,000 sq feet offering a tailored assortment of over 10,000 food and non-food articles and will be open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm for the convenience of its business customers.
Metro says a key focus for it is to support local businesses by working closely with suppliers, farmers and small and medium enterprises to source a very high percentage of products locally aqnd sell quality products.
