Mobile services in Kashmir snapped ahead of I-Day
12 Aug 2016
Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the authorities have suspended all private mobile phone services since Thursday night in the backdrop of the ongoing trouble in Kashmir.
The mobile internet services are already suspended in view of the ongoing trouble in the valley, as a measure to check ''rumour-mongering''.
These services were suspended following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on 8 July, which has triggered the prevailing unrest. The mobile phone services were resumed after 20 days last month, barring outgoing facility on pre-paid mobiles.
Only Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (SNL) mobiles and broadband services on landlines have been working in the valley since the trouble started early last month.
The fresh move of suspending the mobile services, three days in advance, has been taken to check rumours ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
