Mumbai ranks number one in Internet users

Mumbai with 16.4 million internet users is the city with most internet users in India, followed by Delhi with 12.15 million internet users and Kolkata with 6.27 million.
Kolkata has jumped two places from last year to attain the third position, while Bangalore with 5.99 million internet users and Chennai with 5.58 million users are in fourth and fifth positions, respectively, according to a study by The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
In 2013, Mumbai had 12 million and Delhi 8.1 million internet users. There were 4.7 million internet users in Kolkata in 2013, while Bangalore had 4.4 million internet users and Chennai had 4.5 million internet users.
However, with a 50-per cent year-on-year growth, Delhi registered the highest growth of internet users among all the top cities in India.
Mumbai with 37 per cent YOY growth is the second fastest-grwing, while Bangalore with 36 per cent growth came in third.
Hyderabad and Pune, with 34 per cent growth each followed at fourth place, while Kolkata and Ahmedabad with 33 per cent each are at fifth position. Chennai with 24 per cent registered the lowest growth rate among the top eight cities.
Overall, the top four metros have a 23 per cent penetration of Internet users in India. The other four Metros have 11 per cent penetration, with Bangalore registering the highest growth.
Among the smaller metros with a population of more than 1 million, Surat, Jaipur, Lucknow, Vadodara and Nagpur are the top five cities with highest number of internet users.
The small metros constitute 11 per cent of the overall internet, with top five small metros comprising 6 per cent of the total Internet users in India.
