Non-subsidised LPG price hiked by Rs27.50 per cylinder; ATF to cost less

State-run oil marketing companies have announced an increase of Rs27.50 per cylinder in the retail price of non-subsidised LPG (cooking gas) and a marginal reduction in the price of aircraft turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel.

Beginning today, non-subsidised LPG, which consumers buy after exhausting their quota of subsidised cooking fuel will cost Rs27.5 more per 14.2-kg bottle.

Non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) will now cost Rs545 per 14.2-kg per cylinder in Delhi.

Against this, subsidised LPG costs Rs417.82 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi.

The price difference between subsidised and non-subsidised LPG now stands at less than Rs130 per cylinder.

The hike in rate comes on back of four straight monthly reduction. Non-subsidised LPG price was last cut on 1 October by Rs42 to Rs517.50 in Delhi.

Prior to that, rates were cut by Rs25.50 on 1 September, by Rs23.50 on 1 August and by Rs18 per cylinder to Rs608.50 on 1 July.

Non-subsidised or market-priced LPG is one that consumers buy after exhausting their quota of 12 bottles of 14.2-kg each at subsidised rates in a year.

The three fuel retailers - Indian Oil Corp, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum - revise jet fuel prices and non-subsidised LPG rates once a month.

ATF in Delhi will now cost Rs142.56, or 0.3 per cent, less per kilolitre at Rs43,041.61 per kilolitre, oil companies announced today.

The reduction comes on the back of 5.5 per cent or Rs2,245.92 per kilolitre increase in ATF price on 1 October.

Rates vary from airport to airport depending on the local sales tax or value-added tax (VAT).

Jet fuel constitutes over 40 percent of an airline's operating costs and the price cut will bring marginal relief to the cash-strapped carriers.
