Number of domestic air passengers up 17.3% at 95.45 mn in October

Passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan-Oct 2017 increased 17.30 per cent year-on-year to 95.45 million against  81.37 million during the corresponding period of previous year, figures released by the Director General of CIVIL Aviation (DGCA) showed.

The DGCA data compiled from traffic data submitted by various domestic airlines for October showed the passenger load factor (PLF) or the average number of passengers per flight has shown a slightly increasing trend compared to previous month primarily due to the onset of tourist season.

PLF was the highest for SpiceJet  93.7, against 94.2 in September, followed by Go Air 87.6 (88.5), IndiGo 87.3 (85.2) Air Asia 83.0 (81.6), JjetLite 82.1 (83.3), Jet Airways 80.5 (80.2), VIstara 80.2 (84.1), Air India 76.6 (78.6), Zoom Air 74.4 (60.1) and Trujet 65.7 (74.4).

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines in October 2017 stood at 0.50 per cent.

Scheduled airlines also received a total of 656 passenger related complaints in October 2017. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of October 2017 was around 0.63.

On-time performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines complying with route dispersal guidelines for the four metro airports, viz, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai for October, showed IndiGo was top performer with 83.9 per cent OTP, followed by SpiceJet (83.3 per cent), Air India (Domestic) (77.2 per cent), Vistara (75.6 per cent), GoAir (73.1 per cent) and Jet Airways-JetLite (64.0 per cent).
