OMCs hike price of non-subsidised LPG cylinder by Rs26.50
01 Dec 2012
State-run oil marketing companies have announced another hike in the price of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) cylinders effective Thursday. The 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for domestic consumers would now cost Rs922, up Rs26.50 from its earlier level.
Consumers who purchase beyond their annual quota of six 14.2-kg cylinders will now have to pay Rs922 per cylinder against the Rs895.50 paid so far.
Against this, a subsidised cooking gas (LPG) cylinder in Mumbai costs around Rs440 and Rs410.42 in Delhi.
The price of a commercial 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will go up to Rs1,105.50, while for the 19-kg unit the price would be Rs1,551.00.
The prices of non-subsidised cylinders for domestic and commercial use vary because of the customs and excise duty exemption allowed for domestic LPG users.
While the overall cap is six cylinders per consumer across the country, Congress-ruled states have raised the subsidy limit from six to nine cylinders, with state governments bearing the subsidy burden.
OMCs revise rates of non-subsidised LPG on the first day of every month based on its average imported cost and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate.
