Opposition rocks Parliament over petrol price hike
04 Mar 2013
Both houses of Parliament were repeatedly adjourned today amid a ruckus over rising fuel prices. The opposition was united in demanding a rollback of the recent price hikes in oil-based fuels, particularly the hike in petrol prices over the weekend.
In the Lok Sabha, members of the Samajwadi Party, the Left parties, the Trinamool Congress, and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam stormed the well of the Lok Sabha, while Bharatiya Janata Party members were on their feet.
In the Rajya Sabha, all the constituents of the opposition National Democratic Alliance - the BJP, the Janata Dal (United), the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiv Sena - protested on the issue.
Here too they were joined in sloganeering by the Left and other parties like the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
''Roll back price hike in petrol,'' the opposition members chanted in both the Houses.
While the Lok Sabha witnessed two adjournments, the Rajya Sabha saw three.
