GVK Biosciences opens new clinical pharmacology unit in Ahmedabad

Hyderabad: Leading contract researcher GVK Biosciences today said that it has commissioned its new clinical pharmacology unit (CPU) at Ahmedabad in Gujarat to met increasing business demand.

The new CPU adds 110 beds to GVK BIO's existing capacity of 144 beds and will conduct a variety of studies in healthy volunteers.

Ahmedabad was the most preferred and logical destination for expansion considering the volunteer pool accessibility and proximity to about 10 contract research organisations and leading pharma companies.

"With three clinical wards and 110 beds, the unit is state-of-the-art and designed to suit all regulatory requirements," GVK Biosciences said in a media release.

It said that the facility also has special housing facilities for female volunteers, the key features of which include access to special population like young women, post-menopausal women, diseased population and access to about 12,000 healthy volunteers.

GVK Bio's clinical pharmacology unit (CPU) is a service provider of bioequivalence studies to generic pharma companies globally.

The company said that its CPU unit, operational from 2004 in Hyderabad, has undergone several international audits, inspections and has key accreditations to its credit including the USFDA, DCG(I), ANVISA (Brazil), AFSSAPS (France), WHO and Turkey's ministry of health, Turkey.

"In addition to the healthy volunteer population, the Ahmedabad facility gives access to diseased population in psychiatry, metabolism, cardiovascular, neurology, etc" the rerlease added.
