Power troubles not to end in the near future: reports

Power woes seem to be unlikely to end anytime soon as the Northern Grid was on the verge of tripping yet again, officials said in Lucknow today.

The 400 kv double-circuit line between Gwalior and Agra faced "dangerous overloading" last evening, which could have triggered a grid collapse. However thanks to timely intervention by power professionals a replay of the events earlier this week was averted, IANS reported quoting sources from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited.

Realising that the load on the crucial line had hit 800 MW in the evening, the powermen scaled it down to 600 MW by cutting electricity in many parts fed by the line.

The power situation continued to be in a "state of despair" with only around 75 per cent of power restored after Tuesday's grid collapse that saw the state grind to a halt.

According to officials, power supply to industries had recovered and by noon today power to all industrial areas of Kanpur, central UP and Bundelkhand would be completely restored.

Today, the state was drawing 7,000 MW power, while the demand was around 9,000-9,700 MW, according to an official who spoke to IANS.
