Reliance Communications is the first CDMA telecom service provider in India to launch Blackberry, the push mail smart phone. It also became the first to launch the Blackberry 8830 World Edition phone, which provides inter-operability on both CDMA and GSM networks for ease in international roaming.

Blackberry has been developed by the Canada-based Research in Motion (RIM). Leading GSM operators Airtel and Hutch already offer Blackberry services in India.

Reliance has launched four Blackberry handsets. The Blackberry Pearl and Curve are for GSM subscribers, Blackberry 870 3e for CDMA subscribers, and the Blackberry 8830 World Edition functions on both networks. The Blackberry 8703e and 8830 will be available in 16 cities to start with and will be gradually rolled out across India, the company said.
