Rico strike ends; component supplies to GM, Ford to resume
06 Nov 2009
Workers at Rico Auto, an auto component maker, have called off their eight-day-old stir, helping to resume stalled supplies to global auto-makers such as General Motors and Ford.
The Rico stir, which hit supplies to some major foreign auto makers, is reported to have caused the shutdown of some North American plants of GM and Ford.
Surendra Singh, senior vice president for human resources at Rico Auto Industries Ltd, said on Friday that the company has arrived at a settlement with the workers and that the company will start full production in a day or two.
Over 2,000 workers at the Rico plant, situated near Delhi, resorted to a strike on 21 September after the company suspended some of their colleagues citing indiscipline.
The company has several joint ventures, including FCC Rico, Continental Rico, Rico Jinfei and Magna Powertrain Ricco.
FCC Rico makes clutch assembly for two wheelers and four wheelers in India while Continental Rico makes foundation brakes, brake calipers and drum brakes, actuation brakes, actuation units (brake boosters, master tandem cylinders) and load sensing proportional valve (LSPV).
