RIM to launch seven smartphones in India

Despite some recent setbacks, Research In Motion (RIM) continues to be bullish on India.
The maker of Blackberry says it will launch seven smartphones in India very soon. Among the phones on the launch pad are The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900, the thinnest smartphone from RIM yet. The phone is being readied for launch in the second week of August.
The smartphone is powered by the latest version of its OS, BlackBerry OS 7, and comes with a 2.8" VGA capacitive touchscreen. It comes with voice-enabled Universal Search, to facilitate handsfree search easier. It also has Near Field Communication (NFC), although it is going would be some time time for the technology to be implemented in our country. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor, and comes with 5 MP camera, 8 GB internal memory and supports up to 32 GB SDHC memory cards.
The device which will come with a 1.5 year warranty would carry a price tag of Rs32,500.
According to analysts, the BB Bold Touch 9900 could garner a sizeable customer base, due to reports commending its quick and speedy touchscreen response.
Meanwhile in the US AT&T is to soon announce introduction of the all new BlackBerry Torch 9810, the sequel to the BlackBerry Torch. The device would run on the latest BlackBerry 7 OS and will come with a 1.2GHz processor.
The new Torch would allow 720p videos to be recorded and viewed on a 3.25 inch screen, at a resolution of 640×480. The new BlackBerry OS is supposed to be twice as fast as the previous ones and the Torch would support 3D graphics that are expected to run smoothly on the 1.2GHz processor.
The device features an 8GB in-built memory which would be expandable upto 32GB via microSDHC slot. The device would allow speedy browsing on the upgraded Wifi and 3G services.
