The Supreme Court, which last week stayed demolition of buildings in Campa Cola compound in Mumbai, today asked illegal residents to vacate the premises by 31 May 2014.

The apex court also asked occupants of illegally constructed flats in the compound that housed the erstwhile Campa Cola plant of to give an undertaking within six weeks to vacate their houses.

The apex court said the extension of demolition deadline from 11 November to 31 May was purely on humanitarian grounds.

"If no undertaking is given within the specified period, civic body will be entitled to take action in accordance with the February 27 order," the SC bench said.

Earlier, the BMC had told the Supreme Court that there was no rehabilitation plan for occupants of illegal flats in Campa Cola premises in Mumbai.

The SC order comes after Attorney General GE Vahanvati also informed the court that no specific proposal could be given to find an alternate solution.

During the last hearing, the court had asked Attorney General GE Vahanvati to suggest a proposal in consultation with the affected flat owners of the Campa Cola society.
