New Delhi: Limca, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi are the three of the 12 soft drinks that were cleared for pesticide residue following tests at a government laboratory. The Indian health ministry on Thursday had made public the contentious report on pesticide residue in soft drinks as analysed by the Mysore-based Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI).

Of the 12 brands tested, only Limca from the Coca-Cola stable, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi were below the permissible limits for pesticides as per the European Union norms, the CFTRI report pointed out.

The report was commissioned by the health ministry in the wake of a study done on soft drinks by an environmental group, Centre for Science and Environment.
