TN reassures solar power producers

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company will tie up 1,000 MW of solar power as proposed in the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy 2012 announced last month, assuring grid connected solar power producers in the state timely payments and evacuation, state electricity minister Natham R Viswanathan said today.
He said the state-owned power utility would soon be inviting bids from solar power producers for long-term power purchase agreements.
Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company will be tying up 1,000 MW of solar power as outlined in the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy 2012, he added.
Addressing the `Energy 2012: Vision 2023' seminar on sustainable energy management organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the minister said the state power utility has interacted with potential investors so as to address their concerns.
He said the utility would create the additional infrastructure required for ensuring timely evacuation while at the same time assuring timely payments.
He said the state government's policy envisages addition of 3,000 MW of solar power generation over the next three years by incentivising solar power projects.
