Kochi:
The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has
recorded a profit of Rs 63.55 lakh in 2001-02 and the
maiden dividend of the corporation will be announced next
year, Kerala Tourism Minister K V Thomas said.
Inaugurating KTDCs new online hotel reservation system,
which enables exposure of all premium KTDC hotel properties
to more than 5 lakh travel agencies spread over 120 countries,
Thomas lauded KTDC as a profit-making public sector unit
(PSU) that has become a role model to other players in
the industry as well as to other PSUs.
The high-speed online reservation system has been introduced
in association with Resnet, a networking company of ICICI.
Apart from the international agencies, 4,000 travel agents
located across 46 Indian cities are also linked directly
to KTDC through this system. The corporation has also
placed all its prime properties in the global distribution
system (GDS), providing easy access to international travel
agents.
Releasing the new logo of the corporation on the occasion,
KTDC chairperson Padmaja Venugopal said despite the prevailing
slump in the industry, the corporation has been registering
consistently satisfactory bookings this year. Tea County
(Munnar), Bolgatty Palace
(Kochi), Waterscapes (Kumarakom), Lake Palace and Aranya
Nivas (Thekkady) and Hotel Samudra witnessed a near-full
reservation round the year.
Tourism secretary T Balakrishnan, KTDC managing director
K Elangovan and representatives of the travel and tourism
industry attended the function.
