TRAI allows telcos to issue “combo” recharge vouchers
22 Oct 2012
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has allowed service providers to issue new kind of recharge coupons for pre-paid connections that will provide dual or ''combo'' benefit to consumers.
The new 'Combo Vouchers' will enable telcos to offer value-added services to customers through mobile phone accounts as well as avail services at discounted rates, a TRAI release said.
TRAI said the ''Combo Vouchers'' would provide more flexibility to service providers to offer innovative bundling of the products based on market segmentation.
It would also offer the subscriber convenience of purchasing additional monetary value as well as getting benefit of special tariffs through a single transaction.
TRAI today issued ''The Telecom Consumer Protection (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2012'', permitting access service providers to offer Combo Vouchers.
The Telecom Consumer Protection Regulation, 2012 (TCPR) permitted only three categories of vouchers -- Plan Vouchers, Top-ups and STVs.
