Truecaller has launched Truemessenger, a new SMS replacement app for Android phones, which comes with an automated spam filter powered by 150 million Truecaller community members worldwide, the company said.
Truemessenger was available exclusively in India, with plans for a global launch in the near future.
''With the increasing amount of SMS spam, and unknown messages sent to private mobile phone numbers, Truemessenger puts you in control of who you communicate with and keeps your inbox clean and free from unwanted messages,'' Truecaller explained in its latest blogpost.
Basically, Truemessenger took a phone number number and using the 150 million members from the Truecaller community it identified the actual name behind the number.
The following are the key features of Truemessenger:
- Users can put a name to a number even for contacts outside their phonebook
- They can detect, block, and report spam alongside other Truecaller members
- Users get the option to avoid messages from unwanted numbers and contacts
- Spam messages are sent to a separate folder
- Filtering options can be added by creating customised filters with known spam keywords or number series (area codes or country codes)
Alan Mamedi, CEO & co-founder of Truecaller, said in a press statement, ''With Truemessenger we've reimagined the SMS app experience by making it more social and putting control back into the users' hands so they always know who they are communicating with.''
Truecaller had partnered with DJ Avicii and his manager Ash Pournouri for a special message alert tone and soundtrack for the Truemessenger promotional film.
