Vestas enters frame agreement with EDF to supply wind turbines in 2012-2014

Danish wind turbines maker Vestas Wind Systems has said that it had entered a frame agreement to supply French renewable energy group EDF Energies Nouvelles, or EDF EN, with turbines over the period 2012-2014.
Through this deal EDF EN purchase is to purchase at least 50 per cent of all Vestas' future onshore wind installations in Europe and at least 30 per cent of all future onshore wind installations in the US. Vestas the world's biggest wind turbine manufacturer.
The agreement would cover EDF EN, its European affiliates and its US subsidiary enXco.
Thanks to the contract, the French company would further develop with Vestas in countries, such as France, Italy and Greece. Further, EDF EN would launch new operations with the Danish company in the US, the UK, Germany, Poland and some emerging markets.
The deal included an immediate firm order for 180 MW capacity turbines.
However, Vestas chief executive Ditlev Engel said on Thursday the deal held potential for bringing in orders for turbines with total capacity of 2,000MW or more.
