Chinese wind turbine manufacturer A-Power Energy Generation Systems has said that it plans to set up a $1.5-billion wind farm project along with US companies in West Texas.
US companies, US Renewable Energy Group, an asset management firm and Cielo Wind Power, a wind developer based out of Austin, Texas will partner with A-Power for the project.
The company said the construction of the wind farm, which will be one of the largest development projects in the US would be financed by Chinese banks.
Investments in clean energy have received a major boost in the US with the Obama administration pushing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The act provides for promotion of innovation and investment in renewable energy.
The project, with a generation capacity of 600 MW will power about 180,000 Texas homes when it is fully operational.
A-Power, China's largest provider of distributed power generation systems will supply the turbines for the project for which delivery will be completed by March 2010.
