Flipkart to start selling televisions online

Leading Indian e-commerce site Flipkart will again sell televisions online, after  stopping sales of the item last June.

The site is currently offering the service only to the shoppers from Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi but is working out plans to start deliveries to other cities.

Shoppers would be able to pick and choose from a range of brands including Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba and Videocon, Flipkart said in the company statement.

The retailer is also offering cash-on-delivery service, as for any other product, plus a 30-day replacement guarantee and also "in-a-day" delivery guarantee.

Additionally, the company claims to have an 'exhaustive' buying guide along with exchange schemes, plus a scheduled delivery, which goes well with such goods.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, senior vice president, retail at Flipkart said in a statement that the company would be ''adding many more products & verticals in the coming months.''

Krishnamurthy said large appliances presented a huge market in the country. He added with this launch, the company looked forward to delighting customers with a large selection, competitive prices and an exceptional post-order service experience, techcircle.in reported.

He added the company would be offering many more products and verticals in the coming months.

According to commentators the company's earlier aborted foray in the segment had to do with shipping costs and product returns especially for cash-on-delivery transactions. Flipkart, which had earlier acquired and shut electronics e-tailer LetsBuy, however, continued to retail small appliances.

Commentators add, with the launch of its marketplace last year the retailer can now lower the load of selling high value products such as large appliances through the platform by roping in other vendors.

It may be worth noting that almost all  televisions launched on the site are offered by W S Retail, earlier Flipkart's in-house vendor. With the marketplace's integration with the platform, W S Retail was now one of the many vendors selling through the site.

According to the company spokesperson the firm planned to incorporate other sellers in the television and large appliances category.
