India fourth lowest in adopting security measures: McAfee

After being dubbed the third highest Stuxnet-infected country (See: India among world's top three Stuxnet-infected countries), India has now been found to be the fourth lowest country in terms of security adoptions by antivirus company McAfee.
In a global report released by the antivirus company, Indian critical infrastructure industries (like power grids, railways, nuclear energy plants, etc) only fared better than Brazil, France and Mexico in adopting security measures.
In fact, the level of adoption among these countries is only half as many as adopted by leading countries - China, Italy and Japan, the security firm said.
''We found that the adoption of security measures in important civillian industries badly trailed the increase in threats over the last year,'' said Stewart Baker, who led the study on behalf of CSIS.
Among those surveyed, 60 per cent the Indian respondents claimed to deploy a threat monitoring service and use software update and patch management service.
40 per cent said they have policies prohibiting USB stick usage and policy enforcement on unauthorised software. Incidentally, a Symatec report released recently found that the majority of malware samples in India were spread through removable drives.
