04 May 2010
Internet Explorer's fortunes in the marketplace continue to slide with its share of the browser market falling below 60 per cent in April, even as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox gained at its expense.
For April, IE's share of the market was at 59.95, down from 60.65 per cent in March, according to Net Applications. Google's Chrome gained the most at IE's expense, garnering 6.73 per cent of the market, up from 6.13 per cent, while Firefox gained marginally, with 24.59 per cent.
The decline in IE's fortunes has been consistent. It had 75.94 per cent of the market in May 2008 as against Firefox's 18.3 per cent with Google's Chrome not even released.
Microsoft now hopes to reverse the trend with the Internet Explorer 9.
