13 Feb 2017
The ministry of home affairs has appointed Navrang S B, a key member associated with the BJP Information Technology (IT) cell, as a "consultant" to effectively handle the ministry's social media accounts, say reports.
Navrang, along with two other BJP workers - Ravi Ranjan and Shishir Tripathi - were appointed to handle social media account of the ministry.
Navrang, who was part of BJP's office modernisation committee, was also part of a key BJP team during the 2014 general elections.
The home ministry, however, said Navrang was not part of BJP IT cell, and that he was associated with a private firm engaged by the BJP during Uttar Pradesh elections.
Based in Lucknow then, Navrang was also handling the account of BJP's Internet TV channel Yuva TV.
Navrang and others will draw a salary of Rs70,000 each for rendering the services, according to reports.
Home minister Rajnath Singh already has a full-fledged team to project the ministry's work in social media.
This includes officials from Press Information Bureau (PIB), which is under the information and broadcasting ministry and his personal team.
