With the rapidly growing numbers of internet users coupled with a surge in e-commerce transactions, the average monthly domain name registrations in India had more than doubled to 4 per cent of all global registrations, according to industry estimates, PTI reported.
This was however, far behind the additions in China, which accounted for 20-22 per cent of monthly new domain name registrations globally.
BigRock India's Shashank Mehrotra told PTI, close to 4 per cent of all global registrations were now from India.
"Over the past few months, there has been a rapid increase in domain name registrations, particularly from the country with the monthly additions rising to 2 percent from an average of 1.5 percent of the global registrations," Mehrotra added.
He added, that due to the surge in online shopping, there was also a huge rise in the number of internet users in the country.
As regards the huge numbers in China, which was the largest online market, he added, China had also doubled its rate of domain name additions.
BigRock counts Warner Brothers, Fiat India, Adidas, Yatra.com, HP Gas, Star Network and Kotak Securities among the more prominent websites it hosts. It competes with larger players like GoDaddy, HostGator and Net4India.
