Twitter donned the mantle of a Good Samaritan leaving behind television media as the twiterrati rushed to help Mumbai in the virtual world in the immediate aftermath of the bomb blasts.

While the news channels were glued to the blast sites and aired gory scenes of wreckage and damage, blood and chaotic scenes at hospitals Twitter offered a helping hand, in a marked contrast, to live to its social networking credo.

The site was flooded with help offers for those affected by the blasts.

Twitter's official Indian account @twi tweeted ''Twitter users in Mumbai are using the hashtags #needhelp and #here2help to help people affected by the blasts. Search will work on mobile.''

Wednesday saw the  #here2help emerged as the top trending topic on Twitter.

People were tweeting making enquiries about missing people while a few were offering stranded victims food and shelter and there were tweets about hospitals requiring certain blood types too.
