Zynga buys Canadian mobile applications developer Five Mobile

Zynga Inc, the publisher of online game Farmville on Facebook, yesterday said that it is buying Canadian mobile applications developer Five Mobile, in a move that could help it expand into mobile devices.
Founded in formed in 2008, Toronto-based Five Mobile is a developer of an application that gives sports fans real-time scores, news, live blogs and original video on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
It has also developed products for Walt Disney, Sony Pictures Entertainment and MapQuest.
Four of the company's employees will join Zynga and work at the newly created "Zynga Toronto," the company's first development studio in Canada, which will be headed by Five Mobile co-founder Ameet Shah.
San Francisco-based Zynga, which announced the deal yesterday on its blog, did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Zynga is the world's largest social game developer with more than 232 million monthly active users playing their games, which include CityVille, FarmVille, FrontierVille, Words With Friends, Mafia Wars, Zynga Poker, Café World, and Treasure Isle.
