White House now has an official blog at Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace
04 May 2009
Technology and BlackBerry freak, US President Barack Obama is making his government's presence felt on social networking sites by registering an official White House Blog 'White House 2.0.' on Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
During the Presidential campaign, Obama had used Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to drive home his messages to the American public.
After being elected president, Obama and his staff often complained that the White House technology was outdated and compared it to the technology gap between the latest X-Box and the Atari of the '90s.
After having overcome genuine security concerns, the White House 2.0 will receive real time updates, which are really links to or copy entries from the official web site of the White House, the 'WhiteHouse.gov.'
The Whits House blogs are already attracting thousands of fans with more than 14,500 on Twitter, over 60,000 on Facebook and 8,000 on MySpace.
The White House blogs said, "Technology has profoundly impacted how and where we all consume information and communicate with one another. WhiteHouse.gov is an important part of the administration's effort to use the Internet to reach the public quickly and effectively, but it isn't the only place."
