Ambuja Cements posts improved Q3 net sales at Rs1610.95 crore

Ambuja Cements' net sales improved 16.2 per cent to Rs1610.95 crore in Q3 September 2009 over the same period in 2008. The company announced the results on Wednesday after market hours.
The company registered a sales growth of 4.8 per cent at 4.1 million tonnes in Q3 September 2009 as against the same period over Q3 September 2008.
In the quarter ended September 2009, the cement demand registered a double digit growth. The central and eastern regions were particularly strong, while the southern region witnessed a sharp slowdown as well as unfavorable weather conditions.
Ambuja Cements said it expects a strong demand in the quarter ending December. The company however said that markets for exports may remain depressed.
Ambuja Cements has a strong presence in the production and marketing of cement and clinker and is the largest cement maker in terms of sales in the north.
The company's consolidated operating profit margin increased by 370 basis points year-on-year to 28 per cent in the September 2009 quarter on improved realisations and lower operational costs. Despatches improved 2.8 per cent y-o-y to 5.06 millon tonnes in the second quarter of FY10 even as its realisations improved by an estimated 6.9 per cent y-o-y to Rs3,892 a tonne.
