Corn Products to acquire National Starch from AkzoNobel, for $1.3 billion

Corn Products International, Inc, a US-based refiner and processor of corn-based food additives and sweeteners today agreed to buy National Starch, a provider of specialty starches, from the Netherlands-based paint company AkzoNobel, for $1.3 billion in cash.
Headquartered in Westchester, Illinois, Corn Products is a leading supplier of starches, sweeteners and other ingredients. It is the world's largest producer of dextrose and a leading regional manufacturer of starches, syrups and glucose.
The company provides a wide variety of ingredients to customers in more than 60 industries, including the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, animal feed, corrugating, paper and textile sectors.
With net sales of $3.7 billion in 2009, the company operates plants in 15 countries, including company-owned operations, joint ventures, alliances and technical agreements.
New Jersey-based National Starch is a leading global supplier of specialty starches with focus on supplying the food industry.
The company's technologies are supported by a world-class research and development infrastructure and protected by more than 800 patents and patents pending.
