Boeing announces departure of chief strategy officer in 2024 amid company restructuring
17 Nov 2023
Boeing’s chief strategy officer, Marc Allen, has decided to step down from his position by the end of this year. This decision is said to be directly due to the U.S. aircraft manufacturer revamping its strategic division.
Boeing CEO David Calhoun issued a letter to his employees on Thursday, 16 November 2023, saying that the company will not look for an alternative for the position of chief strategy officer as of now.
Calhoun stated that Boeing will withdraw its strategy and corporate development organization and instead encourage strategy teams to directly assist their respective business units.
Calhoun stated that the teams provide critical counsel and insights, and he mentioned that they can have the most impact when working alongside those designing, building, and sustaining their products.
Boeing’s revamp plan for the strategy unit will be created by CFO David West and top human resources official Mike D’Ambrose.
Marc Allen, who ascended to the post of chief strategy officer in 2020, will be vacating his post by the end of 2023 and will completely leave the company after serving as an advisor until mid-2024.
Allen had made efforts to acquire the plane-making unit of Brazil’s Embraer. This deal was unfortunately called off during the market turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Allen also oversaw a trade dispute with rival Airbus over subsidies.
Marc Allen had also led Boeing’s China unit.
Calhoun stated that Allen had provided exceptional leadership for the organization over the last three years, and he expressed confidence that now was the time for the transition.
