RIM marketing chief to leave in six months
05 Mar 2011
The head of marketing for Research In Motion will leave the company in six months.
In a statement on Friday, RIM said Keith Pardy who joined the Canadian technology company in December 2009, decided to leave for personal reasons.
Pardy would however be with the company for the next six months to help with transition.
Pardy's resignation, which has taken the industry by surprise comes weeks ahead of the expected launch of RIM's PlayBook which comes a year after the introduction of Apple's iPad tablet. The RIM offering will be pitched against devices powered by Google's Android platform.
According to Brand Keys consultancy, under Pardy the appeal of the BlackBerry brand, which at one time was on par with that of Apple, has withered.
Meanwhile RIM has sought to keep PlayBook in the minds of consumers and business customers with a constant stream of announcements and trade show appearances since unveiling the tablet in September.
However, the company has not yet to announced when it would ship or give details of its pricing.
