Sensex crosses 21,000 in opening trades

Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex today touched an all-time high, crossing the 21000-mark. At 10:05 am, within minutes of the opening bell, the BSE Sensex was up 222 points, a rise of 1.07 per cent, at 21,034.36, registering an all-time high of 21,077.53.
The NSE Nifty was up 68 points (1.09 per cent) at 6347.25, near its fresh all-time high of 6351.45.
The biggest gainers were Hindustan Unilever (2.78 per cent), Reliance Petroleum (2.75 per cent), Reliance Communications (2.52 per cent), HDFC Bank (2.51 per cent), Bharti Airtel (2.46 per cent) and Satyam Computer (2.44 per cent).
The losers were Hindalco Industries (down 0.92 per cent), ICICI Bank (0.86 per cent), Grasim Industries (0.23 per cent) and ACC (0.08 per cent).
Stocks were mixed in the rest of Asia, with the Nikkei was down 0.32 per cent, while the Hang Seng and Straits Times were 0.88 per cent and 0.32 per cent higher, respectively.
