Nifty ends below 5900 ahead of credit policy tomorrow

The Nifty ended below 5900 mark ahead of credit policy tomorrow. Rate sensitives like realty and banks took a severe beating in trade today and were down more than 3%. BSE Consumer durables, metal, pharma and PSU indices were down 1-3%. IT and telecom indices ended with gains of more than 1%.
The broader markets underperformed largecaps in trade today. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down close to 1.5% each.
The Sensex was down 154.95 points or 0.78% at 19644.24, and the Nifty was down 51.80 points or 0.87% at 5892.30. About 950 shares advanced, 1991 shares declined, and 521 shares remain unchanged.
In the largecap space, BPCL, Tata Motors, TCS, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and Wipro were up 1-4%. On the losing side, DLF, Hero Honda, HDFC Bank, Jindal Steel, Suzlon Energy, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were down 3.5-5.5%.
The most active shares on NSE were MOIL, SBI, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors.
Hindustan Lever closed at Rs 297.55 down 0.12% from its previous close of Rs 297.90. Index heavyweight Reliance ended at Rs 1,049.60 down 0.29% from its previous close of Rs 1,052.60. Tech major Infosys shut shop at Rs 3,206.00 up 1.74% from its previous close of Rs 3,151.05.
