Rangebound Nifty; BHEL, NTPC, JP Associates top gainers

The Nifty was trading in a narrow range of 5020-5050 since morning. Major largecaps like ITC, HDFC, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank were under pressure while buying in BHEL, NTPC, SBI, L&T and TCS capped the downside in the late afternoon trade. The Sensex was down 59.70 points at 16787.13 and the Nifty down 15.95 points at 5,034.20.

Shares of ITC, HDFC, Tata Steel, Sterlite, Sun Pharma and Wipro were down 1-1.5%.

Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, Hero Motocorp and Cipla dropped 0.5-0.8%.

However, shares of BHEL, NTPC and Jaiprakash Associates were top gainers among largecaps, shooting up 2-2.5%.

Banking major State Bank of India jumped 1%. TCS, L&T, Infosys and Tata Motors were marginally higher.

The market breadth was almost neutral; about 1352 shares advanced while 1343 shares declined on BSE.
