Sensex registers fastest 1,000 point rally; closes at 19,058.67, Nifty at 5670

The Sensex today crossed the 19,000 points to add 639 points and close at 19,058 and the Nifty at 5670 notching gains of 242.15. It took just four days for the 30-stock benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange 1,000 points from 18,000 to 19,000.

The pace of advance has been high and the gains were spread over broader markets as well.

Heavyweight Reliance Industries contributed 153 points, ICICI Bank 120 points, ONGC 119 points, L&T 108 points and Bharti Airtel 96 points. The top five stocks contributed 60 per cent to the rally from 18,000 to 19,000.

On Friday the markets took a breadther with Sensex dropping over 300 points but today it not only covered the loss but also went up scaling new peak. (Read More)
