SEBI opens office at Chandigarh

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) today opened its local office in Chandigarh, as part of its efforts to spread out to various parts of the country. A pan-India presence will help promote a balanced growth of the Indian securities market while at the same time bring physical proximity of SEBI offices to investors and intermediaries, SEBI said in a release.
Te market regulator already has local offices at Indore, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Kochi.
The local office at Chandigarh, which would be under the administrative control and jurisdiction of SEBI's northern regional office at New Delhi, will cover the states of Punjab, Haryana and the union territory of Chandigarh, the release said.
The Chandigarh office will facilitate redressal of investor grievances against listed companies and market intermediaries, spread investor education and financial literacy, processing the applications for investment advisors within its jurisdiction and such other functions as may be delegated from time to time to the local offices, the release added.
Anand Sinha, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India and member of the SEBI board, inaugurated the Chandigarh office of SEBI today in the presence of SEBI chairman U K Sinha.
SEBI's Chandigarh office is located at SCO 127-128, First Floor, Sector 17 C, Chandigarh-160017.
