Jaganmohan ReddyA special CBI court in Hyderabad today remanded Andhra Pradesh politician and YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy to judicial custody for two weeks, till 11 June.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier sought custody of 'Jagan', as he is generally known, for 14 days, claiming that he was not fully cooperating during questioning; and that he could influence witnesses.

However, principal judge A Pullaiah of the special court dismissed the agency's plea for police remand and instead sent him into the less rigorous judicial custody.

The court also allowed the petition of Jagan seeking special prisoner status under Andhra Pradesh prison rules.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said his Congress party had no role in Jagan's arrest in a disproportionate assets and corruption case. He said in a standard political response, ''the law will take its own course''.

"The CBI is acting on the direction of the high court and the Congress has nothing to do with it," the chief minister said, rubbishing Jagan's charge of a "political conspiracy" behind the CBI action against him.
