Barry Salzberg to be Deloitte's new global CEO

Mumbai: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited announced today that Barry Salzberg, 57, has been elected as the global chief executive officer, of the consulting firm.

Salzberg, who has been with the firm for 30 years, will assume his new role and responsibilities on 1 June 2011, the start of the new fiscal year.  He joined Deloitte US in 1977 and was admitted as a partner in 1985.

In 2007, Salzberg was elected CEO of Deloitte LLP in the United States, when it acquired technology consulting firm BearingPoint's government operations. 

Salzberg succeeds Jim Quigley, who is completing his term, and who will transition into a senior client service role as a senior partner in Deloitte US on 1 June 2011.

"Salzberg's leadership appointment is part of a rigorous and comprehensive nomination and member firm partner ratification process that occurs every four years and includes all member firms of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu worldwide network," the consulting firm said in a statement. 

Salzberg's responsibilities will encompass working across a network of 53 member firms operating in 150 countries, with more than 170,000 people worldwide.
