Anil Sarin appointed director, public equities, Bessemer Venture partners

Mumbai: Equity fund management specialist Anil Sarin has joined the mumbai office of top-tier US private equity firm Bessemer Venture Partners, the oldest venture cpital practice in the US, as director of public equities to manage its listed investments and participate in due diligence activities. Bessemer has been active in India through offices in Mumbai and Bangalore since 2004.
Sarin, a former infantry officer with action to his credit in Sri Lanka and training junior officers at the Infantry School in Mhow, was earlier co-head of equities at Prudential ICICI Asset Management, India's largest mutual fund company. At ICICI Asset he was named by The Economic Times as 'platinum fund manager' market-beating returns produced by the four funds - the Power Fund, the Dynamic Fund, the Emerging Star Fund, and the Fusion Fund - managed by Sarin.
During his tenure at ICICI Asset management, the money managed by Sarin grew from less than $30 million in 2004 to more than $800 million in 2006.
Prior to joining Prudential ICICI, he was a fund manager for Birla Sun Life specialising in technology, where his management of the fund won the Birla IT Fund won 'best technology fund' in 2001 and 2002, and the Birla Equity Fund the 'best ELSS tax saving fund' in 2003.
Sarin is an MBA from the Institute of Management and Technology in Ghaziabad, and a bachelor's in commerce from Delhi University, started his career with SBI Funds Management.
