BHEL wins Rs11,000-cr order from Adani Power and its subsidiary

State-owned electrical gear manufacturer BHEL has won a contract from Adani Power (APL) and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Limited (MEL) for setting up three Supercritical Thermal Power projects with combined generating capacity of 2,400 MW and a total investment of over Rs11,000 crore.
The three power projects having a rating of 2x800 MW each, will be set up in Kawai, Rajasthan and Mahan, Madhya Pradesh, BHEL stated in a stock exchange filing.
As per the contract, BHEL will supply electrical and other equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, and associated auxiliaries and instrumentation as also supervise the erection and commissioning of the plants.
More specifically, the projects will include Phase II and III of Adani Power’s Kawai power project in Rajasthan and Phase III of Mahan Energen’s Mahan power project in Madhya Pradesh – all based on Supercritical Technology.
BHEL is expected to complete the Kawai Phase II and III projects over the next 49 to 52 months while the Mahan Phase III project will take 55 months.
For BHEL, however, an increase in revenue has not reflected in profit. The company registered a consolidated net loss of Rs211.40 crore for fiscal first quarter ended 30 June 2024, up from the Rs204.7 crore loss registered in the year-ago quarter.
Total income of the company for the April-June 2024 period, however, increased by 9 per cent to Rs5,581.78 crore against a total income of Rs5,117.20 crore in the April-June 2023 quarter.
Simultaneously, the company’s expenses also increased by 9 per cent to Rs5,874 crore for the April-June 2024 quarter against Rs5,409.47 crore for the April-June 2023 quarter.
