UPS order sees Boeing's 767 cross the 1,000 airplane mark
16 Feb 2007
Seattle: The Boeing Company has confirmed an order by UPS, the world's largest package delivery company, for 27 Boeing 767-300 freighters. According to the Seattle headquartered company, the order, when completed, will nearly double the UPS 767 freighter fleet.
For Boeing, the new order also pushes the total number of 767s ordered to date to 1,005 airplanes, of which 77 are freighters. An order of 1,000 aircraft is also a milestone for the 767, for it now joins an elite group of airplanes that includes the 707, 727, 737, 747, 757 and MD-80 models.
Deliveries for the new order are slated to begin in 2009, and will extend into 2012. UPS introduced the 767 freighter into service in 1995, and the current order is its third.
The UPS 767 freighter fleet is powered by General Electric CF6-80C2 turbofans.
