Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia is launching a new flight connecting Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur on 20 July, marking its eighth destination in the country since it began operations to Indian destinations in December 2008.
According to Jasmine Lee Sze Inn, head (Commercial), AirAsia, a promotional fare of Rs3,453 was available for a limited number of seats booked between 5-8 July for travel during 20-31August. Other seats to Kuala Lumpur would carry a fare of Rs4,000.
Inn was in Hyderabad yesterday to promote the service.
She said passengers could expect to save 30-40 per cent on fares compared with other flights. She added that the airline had tied-up with 35 banks for direct debit arrangements to make up for low credit-card penetration in India.
She said the airline saw big potential in the Indian market with annual Indian tourist traffic of 6,000,000 in Malaysia in 2009. She said the airline was also promoting India heavily in Australia and China.
She added Hyderabad remained a challenging market unlike Chennai and Kochi where people have family ties to people in Southeast Asia, she said. ''We expect to tap business travellers, tourists, young couples and students.''
